Apple TV: The Ghost of Gadgets Future?
So, Apple’s got this thing called the Apple TV. You might remember it from, oh, about two years ago when they last updated it. But since then? Crickets. Like that friend who says they’re coming to your party and then “forgets” to RSVP.
Early this year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who seems to have a direct line to Tim Cook’s brain, said a new Apple TV was coming in the first half of 2024. Faster processor, same design. Sounds thrilling, right? Well, the first half of 2024 came and went faster than a politician’s promise. No Apple TV.
Then, Gurman chimes in again, saying “stable inventory” means no new Apple TV anytime soon. Translation: they’ve got warehouses full of these things nobody’s buying.
So, what’s the deal? Is Apple even trying with the Apple TV? I mean, they’ve got iPhones, iPads, Macs, watches that tell you when you’re about to have a heart attack…but the TV? Apparently, it’s on the back burner, next to that “revolutionary” Apple car we keep hearing about.
If you’re thinking of buying an Apple TV, I’d say hold your horses. Unless you’re really into watching “Ted Lasso” in slightly fuzzier quality than your neighbor, maybe wait and see if Apple remembers they make this thing.
Rumor has it the next Apple TV might be cheaper. Like, sub-$100 cheap. And maybe it’ll have a camera so you can FaceTime your grandma right from your couch. That’s…something, I guess. But until we see actual evidence, I’m putting the Apple TV in the “wait-and-see” pile, right next to my hopes and dreams.
