Nicole Kidman: Hollywood’s Hardest Worker and Biggest Cheerleader?
Nicole Kidman is a powerhouse. Not just for her acting skills (which are undeniable), but also for her commitment to creating opportunities for others in the film industry. In a recent Variety interview, she explained her drive to work with up-and-coming filmmakers, especially women, and how she sees her prolific acting career as a way to “create jobs for people”.
This isn’t new for Kidman. Back in 2017, she pledged to work with a female director every 18 months to help shift industry statistics. She recognizes that her involvement in a project can be the deciding factor in getting it greenlit, and that translates to jobs for hundreds of cast and crew members.
Kidman acknowledges the responsibility that comes with this, saying “It’s very hard for me to go, ‘Okay, I’m just going to take care of myself,’ because I’m so much about taking care of other people”. She clearly sees the bigger picture and the impact her choices have on the industry as a whole. This stands in stark contrast to some actors, like Joaquin Phoenix, who recently dropped out of a Todd Haynes film and reportedly left the crew stranded and unemployed in Mexico.
Kidman’s dedication is inspiring. She loves the work, is passionate about helping others, and even manages to get nine hours of sleep! It seems like she’s found a way to balance her incredible career with a genuine commitment to boosting the careers of others. Maybe that’s the secret to being one of the greatest film actors of a generation.
