Tired of Microsoft’s subscription shenanigans? Office says “Hold my beer” (but it’ll cost ya).
Folks, Microsoft just dropped a bombshell – they’ve actually released a version of Office you can buy outright! I know, I had to check the calendar twice too, because it felt like 1999 again. This new Office 2024, available for both Mac and PC, is basically a big middle finger to the subscription model they’ve been shoving down our throats with Microsoft 365.
Now, don’t get too excited. This ain’t some revolutionary new Office. It’s basically the current versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, but frozen in time. No fancy new features coming down the pipeline like with the subscription version. It’s like buying a classic car – you get the charm, but maybe not power windows.
But for Mac users, there are some shiny new toys. Excel’s supposedly faster, especially if you’re juggling a million spreadsheets like some kind of financial wizard. Outlook’s got new swipe gestures for your Magic Trackpad, so you can flick emails away like annoying flies.
PowerPoint now lets you stick your live camera feed into presentations with this “cameo” thing. So, get ready for awkward close-ups of your face while you explain pie charts. And both Word and PowerPoint now let you “like” comments, because apparently, we need more social media validation in our work documents.
The catch? It’s not cheap. Office Home 2024 will set you back 150 bucks, and that’s without Outlook. Want the whole shebang, including the right to use it for business? Cough up 250 smackaroos. You can find it at your local Best Buy or on Microsoft’s website, if you’re feeling adventurous.
Look, Microsoft’s still pushing their subscription service hard. They’re basically saying, “Sure, you can buy this one-time thing, but the cool kids are all paying monthly and getting the latest goodies.” But for those of us who like to own our software, and not be nickel-and-dimed every year, Office 2024 might just be the rebellious act we’ve been waiting for.
