Formula 1… but Make It Metaverse
So, apparently, watching super fast cars go in a circle wasn’t exciting enough. Now you can strap an Apple Vision Pro to your face and watch tiny virtual cars go in a virtual circle. Progress!
There’s this new app, “Lapz,” that’s basically Formula 1 for the metaverse, or at least for anyone who shelled out the big bucks for Apple’s latest face computer. It lets you watch multiple race feeds at once, get all up in the stats of your favorite drivers, and even see a 3D track with cute little icons representing the cars. Because if we learned anything from the pandemic, it was that we all really crave more screen time.
This whole thing was dreamt up by a guy named John LePore, who apparently predicted the future of F1 viewing back in 2018. He even won second place in some fancy F1 Innovation Prize contest for his troubles. The guy also worked on the special effects for movies like “Iron Man” and “Black Panther,” so clearly he knows how to make technology look cool, even if it’s just watching cars drive around.
Forbes apparently thinks this app is the best reason to drop thousands of dollars on a Vision Pro. Which, given the other options seem to be “watching movies in a dark room” and “looking like a rejected extra from Star Trek,” maybe they’ve got a point.
If you’re itching to become the ultimate F1 couch potato of the future, you can sign up for the Lapz beta. Just, maybe don’t wear it in public unless you’re really committed to that whole cyborg aesthetic.
