Jack Black’s Minecraft Movie: Fun Visuals, But Maybe Too Much Jack Black?
A new clip from the upcoming “Minecraft” movie has dropped, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The visuals, directed by Jared Hess of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame, actually look pretty good, cleverly adapting the game’s blocky aesthetic. However, Jack Black’s performance as the voice of Steve, the main character, might be a bit overwhelming for some.
The clip, shown at Minecraft Live, features Black and Jason Momoa (who voices another character) going full-on energetic. While some viewers might enjoy their boisterous style, others might find it takes away from the otherwise interesting visuals. The movie also stars Sebastian Eugene Hansen, who seems to be playing the straight man amidst the chaos.
Fans of the game are excited about the adaptation, but the concern is that the movie might be dominated by Black’s over-the-top performance. We’ll have to wait and see if the final product finds a balance between the fun visuals and the potentially overwhelming voice acting when the movie finally releases.
