iPhone 15 Models Uncovered in tvOS 17 Beta

Four models of the iPhone 15 series have been discovered in the tvOS 17 beta, providing insights into their specifications. Additionally, it has been rumored that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature 6GB of RAM and an extra GPU core.

The tvOS 17 beta references four devices: iPhone 15,4, iPhone 15,5, iPhone 16,1, and iPhone 16,2. This labeling follows Apple’s coding convention for existing iPhones. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, running on the A15 Bionic chip, are listed as iPhone 14,7 and iPhone 14,8. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, equipped with the A16 Bionic chip, are labeled as iPhone 15,2 and iPhone 15,3.

Based on this system, it appears that two devices will run on the A16 Bionic chip and two on the A17 Bionic chip. The new A17 Bionic, built on a 3nm process, is expected to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, continuing the trend from last year’s iPhone 14 release with the A15 chip.

Interestingly, the code also includes references to an iPhone 14,1 and iPhone 14,9, which remain mysterious. The iPhone 14,1 is particularly puzzling because previous A15 devices started at iPhone 14,2. The identity of the iPhone 14,9 remains uncertain, as it could potentially be an upcoming device such as the iPhone SE 3 or Apple TV 4K, both powered by the A15 Bionic chip.

Leaked Specs for iPhone 15 Pro

According to a leak, the iPhone 15 Pro will feature 6GB of RAM, contrary to earlier rumors that suggested an increase to 8GB. This configuration stands in contrast to top Android phones which typically come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Apple’s tight integration of hardware and iOS allows for more efficient performance, requiring less RAM.

The leak also mentioned that the A17 Bionic chip could have a sixth GPU core, surpassing the A16 Bionic’s offering. The number of CPU cores will remain at six, but the A17 chip will have a maximum clock speed of 3.7GHz, up from the A16 chip’s 3.46GHz.

With the utilization of a 3nm process, the A17 Bionic is expected to deliver improved performance and power efficiency. Coupled with rumors of a larger battery, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max may see significant improvements in battery life.
