iPad Pro Shipment Projections Slashed on Sluggish OLED Panel Demand

Apple’s Shiny New iPad Pros: More Like iFlop Pros?

Folks, it seems Apple’s latest attempt at dazzling us with fancy new iPads has fallen a bit flat. Their M4 iPad Pros, the ones with the super-duper OLED screens they rolled out back in May, are apparently not flying off the shelves like they hoped. You see, these iPads were supposed to be the hot new thing, with analysts predicting they’d sell a whopping 10 million units this year. But hold on to your hats, because those same analysts are now singing a different tune. Turns out, they’re now expecting sales to be closer to a measly 6.7 million.

So, what’s the deal? Well, it seems folks aren’t too keen on shelling out big bucks for a tablet when they’ve already got perfectly good phones and laptops. I mean, who needs a thousand-dollar iPad when you can just doomscroll on your phone for free? And even with the new M4 processor and that fancy OLED screen, it seems people are pretty content with their older iPads. Plus, let’s not forget about iPadOS, Apple’s tablet software, which some might say isn’t exactly setting the world on fire.

This whole situation has some folks wondering if Apple can really keep charging a premium for tablets with OLED screens. Sure, OLED is the bee’s knees in the TV world, where it’s competing with things like mini-LED. But in the tablet market, it looks like that price difference is a real sticking point.

Now, Apple’s also been cooking up an OLED version of the iPad Air, which was rumored to be coming out in 2026. But with the OLED iPad Pro not exactly lighting up the sales charts, there’s chatter that this iPad Air might be delayed.

But don’t despair, Apple fans! While the OLED iPad Pro might be a bit of a dud, there’s still hope for OLED in the MacBook world. Apparently, Apple’s planning to switch their 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros from mini-LED to OLED in 2026. And the word on the street is that there’s going to be much higher demand for OLED laptops than tablets. I guess people are more willing to pay extra for a fancy laptop screen than a fancy tablet screen. And hey, who wouldn’t want a brighter, more power-efficient MacBook with a slimmer design?
