Your iPhone Might Be Spilling Your Secrets (and Not in a Fun Way)!
Apple, the company that wants you to think they’re all about privacy, just released iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1. Why? Because your iPhone 16 might have been recording you without that little orange dot even showing up! Apparently, audio messages in iMessage could snag a few seconds of your sweet, sweet voice before the microphone indicator decided to join the party.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, apparently your iPhone (if it’s an iPhone XS or later, or certain iPad models) might have been blabbing your passwords thanks to a little “logic issue” with VoiceOver. You know, the feature that’s supposed to help people with disabilities? Yeah, that one.
So, what’s a concerned citizen to do? Well, Apple says they “improved checks” and “improved validation.” Whatever that means. But if you want to try and keep your secrets (and passwords) safe, you might want to head over to the Settings app and update your phone. You know, the usual drill: General, Software Update, pretend like this kind of thing doesn’t happen all the time.
This has been your friendly neighborhood tech update, reminding you to maybe cover your phone’s microphone with tape. You know, just in case.
