Home Depot’s New Doors: Now You See Me, Now You Don’t!
The Home Depot is trying to make your front door as magical as David Copperfield. They’re rolling out new “Smart Glass Doors” that can go from crystal clear to totally opaque with just a tap on your phone. Think of it like those fancy airplane windows, but for your house.
So, who needs this? Well, anyone who wants a little more privacy or just wants to block out the sun without closing the curtains. You control the magic through an app called Hubspace, which also works with other Home Depot goodies like lights and locks – because apparently, your front door wasn’t enough of a smart home project.
But here’s the catch – it works with “iPhone,” but not “HomeKit” or “Siri.” Which is like selling a car with a steering wheel but no gas pedal. They do have Alexa and Google voice control though, so you can yell at your door if you don’t have an Android.
The doors themselves are made of fancy fiberglass and come in different styles. They start at 800 bucks, which is probably less than replacing all your windows with magic ones.
Look, I’m all for innovation, but this feels like a solution in search of a problem. I mean, is it really that hard to close your blinds? But hey, maybe I’m just old-fashioned. Maybe in the future, we’ll all be living in see-through houses, flashing our privacy settings at each other like some kind of bizarre mating ritual.
Let’s just hope the app doesn’t glitch, or you might be stuck flashing your neighbors whether you like it or not.
