Folie À Deux breaks another box office record (bad kind)

“Joker: Folie à Deux” Bombs at the Box Office, Officially the Biggest Second-Week Drop for a Comic Book Movie

Hey Nerdfighters, looks like we’ve got some interesting box office news today. “Joker: Folie à Deux” has officially taken the crown for the biggest second-week box office flop in comic book movie history. That’s right, it surpassed even “The Marvels” in its spectacular fall from grace. We’re talking an 82% drop from its opening weekend.

This news affects, well, everyone involved in the movie, from the director Todd Phillips to the stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. And it definitely impacts the studio, Warner Bros, who were probably hoping for a repeat of the first “Joker” film’s success.

To put this in perspective, this isn’t just a small dip. We’re talking a massive decrease in ticket sales, especially considering the movie was playing in over 4,000 theaters. For comparison, many of the other films with similar drops were playing in far fewer locations.

It’s important to note that box office numbers aren’t everything. A movie can be a critical success or a cult favorite even if it doesn’t make a ton of money. But when you see a drop this big, it definitely suggests that audiences just weren’t into it.

Interestingly, “Joker: Folie à Deux” was even beaten out by “Terrifier 3” this weekend, showing that sometimes, even a low-budget horror film can capture the public’s attention more than a big-budget comic book sequel.

While some have argued that focusing solely on box office numbers is a shallow way to evaluate a film, it’s hard to ignore a drop this significant. It seems audiences have spoken, and they’re not laughing with the Joker this time around.

So, what does this mean for the future of comic book movies? It’s hard to say for sure. But it’s a reminder that even big names and established franchises can stumble. And sometimes, originality and a strong connection with the audience are more important than a big budget and a recognizable brand.

Stay curious, Nerdfighters!
