Apple, the company that charges you extra for a dongle to plug in your headphones, now wants to curate your concert experience too!
So, Apple, the masters of minimalism and making you buy more dongles than a hardware store, just announced that they’re diving headfirst into the concert scene. Apparently, they think they know what you want to hear after you’ve shelled out hundreds of bucks to see your favorite band.
They’re rolling out this new feature for “Apple Music for Artists.” Now, every garage band and stadium-filler can make playlists based on their setlists. Think of it – you can relive the magic of that sweaty, overpriced beer-soaked concert right from your overpriced phone! Apple says it’s a great way for artists to connect with fans and promote upcoming shows, because nothing says “rock and roll” like a corporate algorithm.
Now, they’ve already been doing this for the bigwigs like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, because, you know, those struggling artists really need the help. But now, it’s open season for every band and their dog.
So, next time you’re at a show, don’t be surprised if the guy next to you is too busy scrolling through his Apple Music curated setlist to even notice the actual band. Who needs the real thing when you have Apple to tell you what to like?
