Apple Maps Finally Discovers Middle-earth… I Mean, New Zealand!
Folks, Apple Maps, the app that once tried to convince you that your local grocery store was actually a lake, has finally decided to acknowledge the existence of New Zealand. That’s right, the Kiwis can now enjoy the thrill of being told to cycle up a mountain by a disembodied voice!
Apparently, Apple has been slowly rolling out cycling directions since 2020, but mostly in places where people actually wear spandex without irony. But now, the adventurous cyclists of New Zealand can finally experience the joy of Apple’s “bike-friendly” routes, which may or may not involve scaling a fjord or dodging a flock of sheep.
This is big news for anyone who’s ever wanted to recreate the “Lord of the Rings” on two wheels. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t?
Of course, Apple being Apple, they’re rolling this out in stages, like they’re unveiling the Mona Lisa one brushstroke at a time. So, if you’re in New Zealand and don’t see the cycling directions yet, don’t worry, you’ll get there eventually. Just try not to fall off your bike in the meantime.
And hey, maybe this means Apple will finally get around to adding Mordor to the map. One can only hope.
