Apple Says “No Ring” to Smart Ring Hype, Sticking with Its Crown Jewel – The Apple Watch
So, Apple’s apparently decided that one wrist is enough for their tech takeover, because despite the growing trend of smart rings, they’ve said “no thanks” to joining the finger-bling game. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the guy who seems to have Apple’s secrets whispered to him in his sleep, says Apple explored the idea but decided to keep their hands off.
The thing is, companies like Oura are making bank with these rings that track everything from your heart rate to your sleep patterns – all things the Apple Watch already does. So, Apple probably figured, why create a product that might steal the spotlight (and sales) from their golden goose, the Apple Watch?
Now, this isn’t the first time the rumor mill churned out whispers of an “iRing.” Back in February, there were reports that Apple’s design team was toying with the idea, maybe as a cheaper version of the Watch. But apparently, the higher-ups weren’t buying it.
Of course, Samsung, Apple’s frenemy in the tech world, jumped on the ring bandwagon with their Galaxy Ring. But just because Samsung does something doesn’t mean Apple will follow suit. Remember foldable phones? Samsung’s had them for ages, and Apple still seems content with their flat-screen iPhones.
Despite Gurman’s track record of being right about Apple’s plans, some folks still think a ring is in the cards. CCS Insight even told CNBC they think Apple might launch one by 2026 to compete with Samsung.
But instead of a ring, Apple might just make the Apple Watch cheaper. The next Apple Watch SE is rumored to have a plastic casing, which could lower the price and make it more appealing to budget-conscious folks or parents looking for a durable watch for their kids.
So, it looks like the Apple Watch is still king of Apple’s wearable castle, and the “iRing” remains a pipe dream for now. But hey, in the tech world, anything can happen. Maybe one day we’ll all be flashing our Apple-branded finger bling.
