Your AirPods Are Now FDA-Approved Eavesdropping Devices… I Mean, “Hearing Aids”!
So, Apple’s decided your AirPods weren’t doing enough already. They weren’t just blasting your music, tracking your steps, and occasionally falling out of your ears – now, with the upcoming iOS 18.1 update, they’re getting FDA approval to be… hearing aids?
That’s right, folks. Your AirPods Pro 2 are about to get a whole lot more… medical. Apparently, they can now amplify specific sounds, like when your significant other is muttering about leaving the toilet seat up – again. They’re even going to have a built-in hearing test, so you can find out just how much damage those rock concerts have done.
But wait, there’s more! This update also promises “enhanced hearing protection.” So, they’ll protect you from loud noises, but also amplify the quiet ones? Seems a little contradictory, but hey, I’m not a doctor… or an Apple engineer.
And if all that wasn’t enough, iOS 18.1 is also introducing “Apple Intelligence.” They’re not saying it’s AI, but it’s basically AI. Think Siri, but maybe a little smarter… or maybe a lot creepier, depending on how you look at it. They’re promising things like text summaries, smart replies, and even the ability for Siri to answer questions about Apple products. Because who needs Google when you have Siri, right?
So, get ready for the future, folks. Where your headphones are also your hearing aids, your personal assistant, and probably your therapist by the time iOS 19 rolls around. You know, just in case listening to all those podcasts wasn’t enough therapy already.
