Airline apologizes for inappropriate Dakota Johnson film on flight

Oops! Qantas accidentally forces passengers to watch ‘Daddio’: a not-so-family-friendly flight experience

Imagine settling into your comfy Qantas flight, ready for some in-flight entertainment, only to be bombarded with a movie that’s a bit more R-rated than you bargained for. That’s precisely what happened on a recent flight from Sydney to Tokyo, with the unfortunate star of the show being the Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn film “Daddio.”

This comedy of errors started with a broken entertainment system. Passengers couldn’t pick their own movies, and instead of going with a crowd-pleaser, the crew decided to play “Daddio” on every single screen – for reasons that remain shrouded in mystery. The film, described by the A.V. Club as “intriguing if altogether unsatisfying” and slapped with a C grade, is far from family-friendly. Passengers were treated to scenes containing nudity and, well, let’s just say very explicit text messages.

This unexpected showing led to some “audible gasps” from surprised passengers, according to one individual who later shared their experience on social media. One can only imagine the awkward conversations that ensued, especially for families traveling with children.

Qantas, red-faced, has since apologized, stating that the movie was “clearly not suitable” and that they are reviewing their movie selection process. While the airline promptly switched to a more appropriate film after about an hour of “Daddio,” the damage was done.

This incident highlights the importance of careful consideration when choosing in-flight entertainment, particularly when passengers have limited control over their viewing options. Let’s hope that the Qantas team opts for a bit more “Finding Nemo” and a little less “Daddio” in the future.
