M3 iPad Air: Apple’s Mid-Range Tablet Gets a Speed Boost, But Still No ProMotion
So, Apple’s at it again, folks. They’re planning to refresh the iPad Air in early 2025, just about a year after the last one. Remember, early 2024, we got a new design, new sizes, and the M2 chip? This time, it’s less “new” and more like a tune-up.
What are we talkin’ here? Well, the rumors suggest the big change is the M3 chip. Now this M3 chip is a step up from the current M2, using a fancier 3 nanometer process, a jargon term that basically means it’s faster and more efficient. This makes sense, remember that just a few months ago, Apple introduced the M4 in new iPad Pro models. So, Apple’s keeping the Pro a step ahead, giving the Air the older chip.
Now, folks might be asking, “what about the design?” The 2024 Air got the modern, flat-edged look with two sizes, 11 and 13 inches, just like the iPad Pro. Well, no word on design changes for now. Apparently, it’s that aluminum chassis, Touch ID power button, USB-C port – the works. Maybe a new color? Who knows, but don’t get your hopes up.
And the screen? It’s good! But don’t expect the fancy OLED or ProMotion from the Pro models. Seems like Apple still wants a clear difference here. They did mention Wi-Fi 7 might be included. And oh, word on the street is a new Magic Keyboard’s in the works. Supposed to have the same function keys as the Pro version’s keyboard, but, and this is crucial, no fancy aluminum top case.
So, who cares? Well, folks looking for that sweet spot between price and performance in an iPad will likely care about this Air refresh. Students, artists, casual users, you know the type. But if you’re a power user craving the best of the best, you’re still looking at that iPad Pro.
When’s this M3 Air dropping? Mark Gurman from Bloomberg says “early next year.” So, stay tuned, folks. Apple will want your attention, just like always.
